2. Collaboration and Song Demo
Typical songwriting consists of a lyric, a melody and chord progressions following a common tempo. The lyric is written & typed out by the lyric writer. The melody and chords are recorded live, or written down in music notation, by the songwriter/composer. This is basic songwriting collaboration. This first live recording of the melody and chords is an artist's sketch... the demo singer has yet to be selected...and up to this point may have taken as much as 8 hours, in the course of trying several melody ideas. So the song is written, but not "demoed" - by today's standards! Creating a professional sound and the right arrangement for the song is another matter all its own. It has to compete and be taken seriously by industry professionals, who will play the song to other professionals... along the road to publishing the song. So without a pro demo, nothing can happen to the song from any publishing standpoint. It makes sense then while collaborating on a song, to produce an effective demo while the mood & vibe is fresh. So then who should pay for the musical talent & sound engineering, to create a "unique track" in the studio? We should... the songwriters / copyright owners. Each song demo project is a 50/50 collaboration. MoodMaster Music's maximum budget for a full professional production master is $1200CAD, the lyric writer's contribution is 50% ($600CAD). Personnel and studio costs: Producer/Engineer, Vocalists, Musicians, Studio Sessions; recording, editing, mixing and mastering.
