4. The Studio
For a full production... after the songwriting is completed, the vocalist, working from the composer's sketch and the lyrics, will decide on the key that is best suited to his or her range and the melody. Then basic rhythm tracks; drums, bass, guitar or piano are worked out and recorded. Additional instrument choices are then made and experimentation begins as to what the hooks or catchy riffs will be. Then comes the vocal session, where several takes are recorded. (MoodMaster Music uses a very expensive studio microphone into a high end preamp and compressor/limiter) Typically, at this point, other ideas and harmony parts are recorded. Then comes the mixing sessions; the best performances of the vocalist and musicians are chosen and tweaking of the studio tools happens to every track, until a desired emotion and groove is created. Needless to say this is a very basic description, (i.e. waveforms are zoomed in at full magnification to make edits). The mix then passes through a mastering stage, to further enhance frequencies and add presence, etc. MoodMaster Music uses the state of the art 24bit, full automation digital recording environment Cubase SX with a good assortment of plugins and outboard tools.
